Road weary from back to back, coast to coast road trips…The Lady and I trooper on trying to get to Savannah, GA in time for an Oyster bar party with live entertainment. In two and a half months we’ve covered 13,500 miles, and 14 states. We grind out the miles waiting until our stomachs roar. Road Gypsies working across the country scouring each town we stay in for their best meal. During the last three weeks The 3 Year Old was buckled down in the back seat and I’ve learned his taste buds say if it’s not chicken nuggets it’s inedible. Brain washed at 3 as is every restaurant that has caved to the kid meal. Having just dropped him off at Grandma’s, I promise I will not eat at a restaurant in Savannah that has a kid meal.
During an excellent meal in Texas at Perrinni’s, a restaurant in Buffalo Gap that serves President Bush, The Lady and I joked while drinking a bottle of cabernet made from their vineyard that we were eating the best bread pudding and needed to tell everyone. The secret was Jack Daniel’s Butter Sauce and if it’s one thing we like its Whiskey. I hope to tell everyone about many great meals but right my current state of mind is at a Sonic in Arizona watching the roller skating waitresses with a Tex-Mex foot long hot dog/Frito chili boat that was awesomely washed down by a sour cherry slushy and sits on top of a bed of cheddar peppers and a better than average fast food cheese burger. Of course The 3 Year Old had chicken nuggets and is giving us two enthusiastic thumbs up to happy to realize his face is covered in sugar fueled ketchup. I won’t be brainwashed and I’m thinking of a bone marrow appetizer, whiskey bars, and chicken nugget free meals. Oxford, Mississippi yesterday….Savannah, Georgia tonight.
